March 27, 2014

Re: Hwy 26 Preliminary Design and Environmental Assessment Study. Highway 26 from the Community of Thornbury to the Town of The Blue Mountains/Town of Collingwood Boundary (G.W.P. 3119-10-00)

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained MMM Group Limited (formerly McCormick Rankin) to undertake the Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment Study (EA) for the rehabilitation of 13.2 km on Highway 26 from the east limits of the community of Thornbury to the Town of The Blue Mountains/Town of Collingwood boundary, in Grey County (see key plan).

The proposed works being considered include pavement rehabilitation, drainage improvements, entrance modifications/removals and parking access to Shale Beach.

THE STUDY PROCESS

The study is following the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000) process for a Group ‘B’ project, a category relating to major improvements to provincial transportation facilities.

External agency and public consultation will take place throughout the study.

Upon completion of the study, a Transportation Environmental Study Report will be prepared and made available for public review. A notice will be published at that time in this newspaper to explain the review process.

If during the study, it is determined that there are no significant environmental effects associated with the project, MTO may decide to reclassify the project into a different project category. A notice would be published in this newspaper advising of the change and providing an opportunity to comment.

PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE

The Public Information Centre (PIC) provides an opportunity to share information and seek input regarding the project. The PIC provides the community with an opportunity to review the study process, existing conditions, proposed improvements and next steps in the study. The PIC will be held as a drop-in style, open house format. MTO and consultant members of the Project Team will be available to answer questions and receive comments. The PIC will be held as follows:

Date: March 27, 2014 . Location: Beaver Valley Community Centre, Large Hall, 58 Alfred Street West, Thornbury, ON N0H 2P0, Time: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
